Environment and Climate

As a food producer with a strong focus on responsibility, we work systematically to reduce our climate and resource footprint. Energy and water are key areas where we can make a real difference, which is why we have established clear targets and implemented concrete initiatives to ensure more resource-efficient production.

We are committed to reducing CO₂ emissions from electricity and gas consumption in line with the objectives of the Danish Climate Act. In 2024, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), ensuring that our reduction targets are ambitious and aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Our target for 2030 is to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO₂ emissions by 42% compared to 2021 levels. We prepare an annual greenhouse gas inventory based on the principles of the GHG Protocol and continuously work to include Scope 3 emissions, which we also aim to reduce through close collaboration with partners across our value chain.

We focus on reducing water consumption through process and production optimizations, particularly in the cleaning of production equipment. Each financial year, we set specific reduction targets for the relative amount of wastewater discharged and monitor our progress continuously.

Solar and Wind Energy

In the summer of 2023, we installed solar panels across the entire roof of our facility. These panels cover approximately one-third of our total electricity consumption, while the remaining two-thirds are supplied through the purchase of certificates of origin from Danish wind turbines and solar energy producers.

By using renewable energy sources in our production, we support UN Sustainable Development Goal 12, particularly target 12.2, which focuses on the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

Packaging and Sustainable Material Choices

We continuously work to optimize our product packaging with a focus on recyclability and material composition.

  • Squeeze Bottles: Made from 100% recycled rPET. The caps and bottles are designed so that the rPET and PP components can be easily separated and recycled.
  • Secondary Packaging: We have phased out the use of expanded polystyrene (EPS) in our Gable Top cartons and replaced it with paper-based solutions.
  • Paper and Cardboard Packaging: All materials are FSC-certified and support responsible forest management in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 15, particularly target 15.2, which focuses on the sustainable management of forests.

Recycling and Waste Reduction

We actively support the recycling sector in Denmark by sorting waste into fractions in accordance with Danish and European legislation. At the same time, we focus on reducing waste streams and minimizing production waste.

Each year, we send paper, plastic, metal, glass, and organic waste for recycling, while continuously optimizing our processes to support national and European recycling targets.

Our efforts in waste reduction and recycling contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, particularly target 12.3, which aims to halve global food waste per capita, and target 12.5, which focuses on substantially reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse.

Organic Certification and Compliance

Fynbo Foods is approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration for the production of organic food products. Our production is subject to ongoing inspections and must comply with the requirements for both the official EU organic logo and the Danish Organic Label (Ø-label).

Organic production at Fynbo Foods follows applicable organic regulations that take animal welfare, nature, and the environment into account. Organic farming avoids the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and restricts the use of additives.
